In the spotlight of top German clubs
In the spotlight of top German clubs
Part of the reason for NF Academy’s first participation in the Laola Cup in Hamburg is the German top clubs’ ever-increasing interest in Scandinavian talented players.
The Bundesliga saw Erling Haaland wreak havoc as the topscorer for Borussia Dortmund, before the striker disappeared to Manchester City before this season. Players from the Nordic countries still make their mark in one of the world’s best leagues, where Danish duo Marcus Ingvartsen and Jesper Lindström have continued to knock in goals for Mainz and Frankfurt respectively. Norwegian international Andreas Hanche-Olsen can also be found at Jurgen Klopp’s old club.
They are just three of several profiles with Scandinavian passports in the Bundesliga. Around the European map, there are more and more Norwegians in action in the best leagues. Something German talent scouts have picked up on in the run-up to this summer’s Laola Cup.
German clubs are increasingly paying attention to the Scandinavian market, following the success of players such as Erling Haaland, Emil Forsberg and others in the Bundesliga. That’s also why we choose this tournament, where we meet German academies at Hamburg’s great facilities, says NF Academy’s Sports Director Gonçalo Moura.

Easily accessible
Hamburg is located in the north of Germany, and the country’s second largest city is easily accessible to travelers from both Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Either by car, ferry or plane. At a reasonable price. So that here there are also opportunities to combine family vacation with an international football experience.
The Laola Cup will be played 24-28 July at Hamburg’s professional training facility. 11 fantastic stadiums await the over 200 participating teams during Germany’s biggest youth tournament. NF Academy will field four teams in the age classes 2012, 2010/2011, 2008/2009 and 2006/2007.
The teams are led in training and combat by NF Academy’s experienced and professional Portuguese coaches. Most players will be invited based on good performances from local programs or international tournaments and training camps they have attended in the past. There are also a few spots available for talents who want to apply.
International experience
It is the first time Norway’s largest academy has fielded teams in the tournament, which will be a great arena for young and dedicated players to take their first step into the international football world. NF Academy’s program is rigged to develop both the player and the human being.
NF Selection Laola Cup provides players with international references against good teams, and will be developing as a supplement to everyday training in their own club team at home. The players also gain experience in integrating into teams with good players from several countries.
NF Academy develops the players’ understanding of football, through learning the game by playing it. This is how many Portuguese world players have started their football careers.
