Brian Sonnenborg wanted to take his family on vacation, and give his son Julius an unforgettable football experience. It has provided memories for a lifetime and great development on the football field.
The family has just returned from Barcelona. A combined holiday and training week for Julius, where participation in the NF Match Camp Salou program was the highlight.
The Sonnenborg family’s journey with the NF Academy started in 2019. The experiences are undividedly positive at all levels for the Danish family.
We wanted to give Julius a football experience abroad and at the same time having vacation together. Then we found NF Academy on the internet. We wrote an email and asked if Julius could take part in the NF Elite Training Camp in Cascais, where there were training sessions with Sporting CP.
-In the first place, we were going to send some videos from matches and training, and then Julius was picked out to join the program. He did very well in Cascais, and was picked out on teams that would play tournaments later. Unfortunately, these were cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.
Since then, we have kept in touch with the NF Academy coaches, and Julius had, among other things, virtual training there during the corona situation.
When it became possible again to participate in the NF Academy programs, we selected the Match Camp program in Barcelona. It has always been an orderly and good process with good services from the NF Academy administration.
We can highly recommend this to anyone who goes with the idea of trying a football camp with the NF Academy. This is so far the best experience of football we could have given our son, says father Brian Sonnenborg.

An amazing self confidence boost!
His son Julius has had a great development with the NF Academy as a supplement to the daily training at home in Denmark.
-The coaches have been very good at helping me work on taking the next step in my development and in my ambissions as a footballer. For me, it’s really been a confidence boost in my training life.
Now I know I can do more with and without a ball than I was previously not as sure of. I have been selected for one of Europe’s biggest youth tournaments, the Ibercup Cascais in Portugal for the NF Academy under-13 team in April where all the major European clubs participate.
In the NF Academy you get a unique opportunity to be invited to tournaments around Europe, i would never otherwise have the opportunity to participate through my club at home in Denmark, says Julius Sonnenborg.
The Match Camp Salou program provided valuable matching against Spanish teams and good training in the summer heat of Salou.
-The camp has been absolutely fantastic, where I have made many new friends from other countries. The NF Academy’s program is also something that made me grow as both a human being and a football player in a very professional environment.
It’s a little out of my comfort zone, as it’s all in English. The coaches have a lot of experience from top academies at European big clubs, so I’ve really got some good drills to do back at home. The program has been absolutely perfect for me, as it was a nice combination of training and matches.

Good experience
He travelled with his parents to Barcelona, where they visited the legendary Barcelona stadium Camp Nou.
The next day, a new journey started with the NF Academy, when the bus brought them to the stunning Cambrils Park Sport Village facility. There, Julius is accommodated with his teammates from Norway and Sweden. In short, his stay in Spain was a very good experience under top conditions with lots of good food and social coziness.
– The program starts with an evening training at some of the best facilities i’ve seen, then having supper and going to bed. The next day there’s the first a session in the morning before the match against a strong Spanish team in the afternoon, and the evening becomes a fun social gathering across all the teams of the NF Academy.
On day three, there’s a new morning session before we played football on the beach in the afternoon.
The fourth day started with a morning session, before I had a chance to play a match with the under-14 team. Then there was the match with my own under-13 team, and it was against a solid Spanish opposition.
On the last day there was another game before we had a 1 to 1- meetings with the coaches on feedback on what we should be working on more.
Finally, a nice ending with the players and parents before returning home, where NF Academy took us to the airport by bus, tells Julius Sonnenborg.
