Traveled for a day to be with NF Academy: Now he will train with Sporting again
They had tested out a number of academies, before his father read about NF Academy on the internet. Far from home, the son participated in his first program. Six months later, he will train with Sporting CP for the second time.
NF Academy and the Portuguese big club Sporting CP have since 2019 had a collaboration to find and develop young talents in Scandinavia.
Last summer, Pedro Cebola received an inquiry from a Latvian family, who wanted their son to participate in a program in Sweden.
Rodio’s Plesakovs proved to be a talented, hardworking, and humble player. He will be part of NF Elite Camp during the winter break for another week of learning, followed by another week of training at Sporting CP.
There he was first invited the week after NF Elite Camp in the autumn break, and Sporting CP invited Rodions to come back.
Rodions and his father have big ambitions, and they have tried several academies in recent years before joining NF Academy. His dad was extremely happy with the level of professionalism we had at our sessions and our way of practicing football. He said it was the best training camp they had been to, and he aimed for several things with us, says Cebola.

Keeping up
The club, which has fostered giants such as Figo and Ronaldo, has its own scouts in place when NF Academy plays tournaments worldwide or trains in the area around Lisbon.
NF Elite Training Camp is an international program, where players, family, and coaching staff are based in the beautiful beach landscape of Estoril-Cascais. Both suburbs of Lisbon, which gives the whole group many opportunities to combine city breaks with beach life and of course the trip’s main destination; Training with international quality. Something that makes everyone lay a good foundation for taking the next step in their development.

NF Academy offers this program during the autumn and winter holidays. It is very popular among Scandinavians. The highlight is matches against Sporting CP, as well as training sessions inside the fantastic training facility at the foot of the huge Estádio José Alvalade.

Wanted by Sporting
It was during the NF Elite Camp during the autumn break that Rodions Plesakov’s performance resulted in a training stay with his peers in Sporting CP.
It was a natural step after the camp in Sweden. There he would get more training sessions and have the unique opportunity to meet some of the best players in Portugal, by facing Sporting CP, says Cebola, who together with his coaching colleagues in NF Academy discussed Plesakovs with the scouts of Sporting CP
Through our close partnership with the club, we spoke directly to them to see if they would be willing to have him come and train with them. After a solid game and the extremely positive feedback we gave them, the Rodions were invited to join Sporting CP the following week, along with many of the best Portuguese players in their age group.
After a fantastic experience there, and for once again demonstrating an excellent level, Rodions was invited to return, says NF Academy coach Pedro Cebola in the end.
