Effective learning
Video analysis is, among other things, a tool for learning and skill development. Over the past 15-20 years, it has become increasingly common in top-flight football. To analyze and evaluate individual players’ performance in training and matches. It’s easier to teach players something by showing them clips that open up questions and answers the player can think of.
Pedro Garrido films and analyzes everything that happens when the NF Academy trains and plays matches. The result ends up in the innovation NF Media Sports Package.
Clear communication is essential for fostering understanding and growth. Through video analysis, we aim to create not just a moment of reflection but a meaningful dialogue with the athlete. This interaction helps them delve deeper into the “why” and “how” behind the specific behaviors and decisions we expect during the game, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical execution.
The use of video provides a unique vantage point, offering an elevated perspective that reveals patterns, spaces, and dynamics that may not be immediately apparent on the pitch, says Garrido.
NF Academy sport package gives a performance analysis, that will help the player develop faster.
By highlighting key moments, such as effective positioning or decision-making under pressure, we encourage athletes to critically evaluate their actions and align them with the team’s goals. This reflective process, supported by visual evidence, not only enhances their tactical awareness but also empowers them to take ownership of their development. It fosters a mindset where feedback is seen as an opportunity for improvement, and each analysis session becomes a stepping stone toward more consistent and impactful performances on the field, says the analyst.
The entire match against Sporting CP is filmed, where the individual highlights are compiled into a video. Coach and player go through and analyze both positive performances and moments where there is learning to be gained for further development.
The NF Academy sports package is a separate product that you can buy in addition to being part of the NF Elite programme.
The package also includes both profile pictures and action pictures from combat situations.
Provides development
During a game analysis, Garrido follow a structured process to ensure the feedback provided is clear, insightful, and useful for the athlete.
The four key areas of football; tactical, technical, physical, and psychological, is the learningpoints Garrido want the player to adapt during the feedback session.
Analysis work is based, among other things, on “How can this situation be solved?” instead of instruction from the coach with “This is how this situation should be solved!” In most cases, it will have a far greater learning effect if the player himself comes to the same conclusion.
I compile all the selected and annotated clips into a single video. This final product is structured to flow logically, allowing the athlete to see their performance holistically.
It’s designed not only to point out areas for growth but also to reinforce positive behaviors and moments, creating a balanced perspective that motivates the player to continue improving, concludes NF Academy coach and video analyst, Pedro Garrido.
Together with one of the other experienced Portuguese coaches, they go through the analysis video with the player. At the end of the NF Elite Winter, this will culminate in a highlight video. Ideal for sharing with top clubs to secure potential trials.
